The map now stretches well beyond downtown Austin. Today it reaches Austin-Bergstrom Airport, Gigafactory Texas, I-35, Manor, and Pflugerville. Tesla added the Circuit of the Americas in October 2026.
The map covers these places:
- Pflugerville
- Manor
- I-35
- Gigafactory Texas
- Austin-Bergstrom Airport
- Circuit of the Americas
How Far Does the Tesla Robotaxi Austin Service Area Reach?
The unsupervised service now covers the entire Austin metro. Here, "unsupervised" means nobody from Tesla rides along to watch the drive.
Rides are available from 6 a.m. to midnight. Both your pickup spot and your destination must fall within the area shown in the app. Since the boundary has shifted several times since the launch, check the app for today's coverage.
Booking a Robotaxi in Austin
Owning a Tesla isn't required. You'll need both the app and a Tesla Account.
- Get the Tesla Robotaxi app. It runs on iPhone and Android, and the iPhone app appears in the App Store.
- Log in with a Tesla Account. If you don't have one, you can set one up.
- Pick a pickup point and destination within the service area, then request the ride.
You cannot select the vehicle that arrives. According to Tesla, either a Model Y or a Cybercab will be assigned to your ride. Cybercab is a newer Tesla model made just for robotaxi trips. It entered the public fleet on September 4, 2026, though only across a small section of Austin.
Riding a Driverless Taxi Around Austin
Not every car is the same. Some operate without supervision, while others still have a safety monitor. That monitor is a Tesla employee who rides in the car in case help is needed. In January 2026, Tesla started removing safety monitors from a few Austin vehicles, so either setup is possible.
Other companies also offer driverless rides in the city. Here is how the options compare right now.
| Company | Booking method | Eligible riders |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Robotaxi | Tesla Robotaxi app | Members of the public |
| Waymo | Uber app | Anyone who rides with Uber; available since March 2025 |
| Zoox | Closed to the public | Zoox employees, family, and friends only |
Reaching Austin-Bergstrom Airport
Austin-Bergstrom Airport sits within Tesla's map. Waymo handles airport trips differently, since Uber does not provide Waymo rides to or from the airport, even though Waymo has said it plans to offer airport service.
What's Next for Tesla in Austin?
Tesla vehicles owned by individuals may enter the robotaxi fleet around Q2 2027. Before then, all rides will use cars from Tesla's own fleet.
