Can You Take a Waymo Ride in London Right Now?
You cannot yet. Waymo shared its plans for London in October 2025, though it has not opened rides to the public in the city so far.
Any Waymo vehicles spotted on London streets are there for testing purposes. According to the company, the cars are being driven with trained specialists aboard, so Waymo staff can work with the vehicles while the system learns London's roads.
When will Waymo start in London?
The company wants to begin London service by the fourth quarter of 2026, a period covering October through December. Treat this as a goal rather than a confirmed day.
Once service begins, trips will be booked in the Waymo app. You can register your interest in that app now.
Is there a map yet?
No rider map exists for London at present. Such a map only becomes useful when public trips are available, and that has not happened in the city so far.
Waymo hasn't shared where in London its cars will go. Registering your interest in the Waymo app is the simplest way to hear when it does.
Service area
Because public rides have not started, Waymo has not opened any service area in London. A service area covers the parts of a city where a robotaxi can collect and drop off passengers.
Other robotaxi companies in London
Waymo is not the only firm developing robotaxi services for London. A robotaxi is a self-driving taxi that you order using your phone.
- Wayve, working with Uber: The pair began offering public robotaxi rides in the city on September 3, 2026. A safety driver is on board.
- Baidu's Apollo Go: The company has been testing on public London streets, together with Uber and Lyft, since July 2026. Riders cannot use it yet.
Are There Driverless Taxis in London Yet?
No fully driverless service is running yet. The Uber and Wayve service welcomes the public, but it includes a safety driver, which means a trained driver remains in the driver's seat and is able to take over.
For London, Waymo plans to run rides booked through its own app, aiming for the fourth quarter of 2026.
