About the Tesla Robotaxi App
Every ride gets booked in the Tesla Robotaxi app, which you can download on iPhone and Android. It appears in the App Store with the name Tesla Robotaxi.
To get started, sign in with a Tesla Account.
Your pickup vehicle will be either the Model Y or the Cybercab. The Cybercab is a smaller vehicle that seats only two people, so it suits one or two passengers.
Where You Can Ride Today?
Every one of these cities offers rides to the public, so anyone who has the app can request a car.
| Place | State | Public rides began | Car occupant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Austin | Texas | June 2025 | Some vehicles run without any Tesla staff member aboard |
| San Francisco Bay Area | California | July 2025 | Safety driver on board |
| Dallas | Texas | April 2026 | Tesla staff are not present |
| Houston | Texas | April 2026 | Tesla staff are not present |
| Miami | Florida | July 2026 | Tesla staff are not present |
| Orlando | Florida | July 2026 | Tesla staff are not present |
| Tampa Bay | Florida | July 2026 | Tesla staff are not present |
Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa Bay have their opening dates listed on Wikipedia's Tesla Robotaxi page. On Tesla's own list of cities operating now, the names are Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
Every city has a service area. Think of it as the part of the city shown on the app's map where the car may travel. Your trip must end inside that area.
Tesla Robotaxi Cities Announced for Later
Tesla has named 4 more cities to come later. Start dates have not been shared:
- Jacksonville, Florida
- Las Vegas, Nevada, where the state has cleared Tesla to run up to 5,000 vehicles
- Phoenix, Arizona, where Tesla has submitted a plan covering how its cars should handle police and firefighters
- San Antonio, Texas
How to Book a Trip
These steps follow Tesla's own guide:
- Sign in to the Robotaxi app with your Tesla Account.
- Type in a destination that lies inside the service area.
- Check the fare and the wait time. The price appears before you commit, and you then confirm it.
- Head to the pickup spot. The car will wait there for seven minutes, so try to be ready when it arrives. Make sure the number plate on the vehicle is the same one the app shows you.
- Once you're inside, tap Start Ride.
Who Rides Along in the Car?
That changes by city and by vehicle. When service began in June 2025, each car carried a safety monitor. That person is a Tesla staff member who stays with the vehicle to watch over the trip. Starting in January 2026, Tesla brought in unsupervised cars, meaning no Tesla staff member rides in them.
In Austin, only certain cars operate without anyone from Tesla present. Every ride in the Bay Area has a safety driver on board.

Questions People Often Ask
Who can use a Tesla robotaxi?
Adults may create an account on their own, though no teen accounts exist. Children between 8 and 17 can ride in a Model Y as long as an adult comes along. Riders aged 13 to 17 also need an adult with them in a Cybercab.
How much is a typical Tesla Robotaxi ride?
On average, a ride comes to about $8.17, and the app shows you a price estimate before you confirm, so you'll know roughly what you'll pay. In a study of prices from March 1 through April 14, 2026, Tesla prices rose 41%, compared with an 18% rise for Waymo. Even with those increases, Tesla remained about half the cost of Waymo.
